Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgetary constraints, and quality standards
Planning and design of electrical networks and electrical connections, including cable routing, switchgear layouts, protection schemes, earthing arrangements and equipment selection in compliance with relevant standards and regulations from LV up to 132kV.
Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle, including feasibility assessment and risk management.
Carrying out demand calculation and network designs
Participate in Technical and Safety audits
Maintenance of procedures for network design and network records
Specification of the design assumptions
Provide knowledge to obtain Land Transfers, Easements and Licensed Areas
Carrying out procedures to obtain Land Transfers, Easements
Liaise with DNOs and other connection providers on point of connection and adoption of assets
Provide supervision to staff and contractors undertaking network design and managing network records
Provide technical knowledge and support to the staff and contractors carrying out construction activities
Document management of Walker & Watts management system and project drawings/documents
Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Responsibilities
Ensure designs and records comply with current regulations and best practice
Design, participate in and undertake safety audits
Implement and maintain effective risk assessment processes within the design procedure
Carry out environmental impact assessments in relation to designs
Participate in quality and risk management audits of the design and construction activities
NERS Responsibilities
Participate in the maintenance of competency matrices for relevant roles
Ensure design of networks for contestable works meets NERS and DNO requirements
Liaise with DNO and other connection providers, contractors and developers in relation to design and construction of networks and connections
Participate in design and maintenance of design procedures for contestable works
Qualifications and Experience
Electrical Engineering Qualification (Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred)
Professional registration with the IET or equivalent
At least 3 years of relevant experience with a DNO or IDNO, or related consultancy
Knowledge of current Legislation, Technical Standards & Specifications, Codes of Practice and Recommendations relating to the design of Electrical Distribution Systems of DNOs and the requirements for the technical records
Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, including LV, HV and EHV.
Proficiency in using industry standard software tools, such as ETAP, AutoCAD, DigSilent, Powerfactory or CDEGS.
Knowledge of NGESO Grid Code Compliance studies and requirements, as well as knowledge of G99/G100 studies
